Holographic entanglement in systems with defects and interfaces
Research
A map of problems, methods and public results
My research asks how gravitational geometry encodes quantum information, particularly when a system contains boundaries, defects or effective lower-dimensional gravitational sectors. I work across holography, conformal field theory and semiclassical gravity, using geometric constructions, analytic calculations and numerical models to distinguish robust structure from prescription-dependent detail.

Geometry and quantum information
Which quantum-information quantities can extremal geometry represent, and when does it agree with a lower-dimensional effective theory?
I study geometric descriptions of entanglement in black-hole and brane-world models. Public work connects defect extremal surfaces, Page curves and JT gravity; recent preprints examine conditional causality criteria and information clustering in the leading Einstein-AdS₃ vacuum RT entropy model.
Approach and reading order
Start with entropy prescriptions that can be compared directly, then examine time dependence, dimension and causal structure. Finish with the geometric representation of information clustering: the storage objective is defined at a finite factorizing regulator, while the geometric result uses the leading Einstein-AdS₃ vacuum RT entropy model.
- Defect extremal surface as the holographic counterpart of Island formula
First identify the area term, defect matter entropy and endpoint variation. Follow the bulk decomposition into the lower-dimensional island prescription to establish the dictionary needed for later comparisons.
- Page curve from defect extremal surface and island in higher dimensions
Apply the static dictionary to the time-dependent AdS₃/BCFT₂ construction and its matching Page curves. Then examine the higher-dimensional comparison, where the bulk DES entropy is generally lower than the boundary low-energy island result.
- Causality Criteria for Island Models
After the entropy calculation, examine causal structure. This preprint makes its argument for effective micro-causality conditional on no extra propagation channels, a local bulk-supported operator dictionary, and matching effective spacelike separation to bulk causal accessibility.
- Information clustering and geometric pressure in AdS3
Finally turn to grouped storage for fixed finitely many separated intervals. Public Zenodo v1 connects entropy partitions to free-perimeter-plus-area optimization using leading RT entropies and a controlled ultraviolet error. Actual-state entropies need separate error bounds; the compact-BTZ annulus has a mismatch at the same tariff.

Geometry as compression in theoretical physics What a defect extremal surface isBoundaries, defects and interfaces
After adding a defect, an EOW brane or a finite cutoff, which boundary data determine entropy and spectrum calculations?
I examine how boundaries and defects enter entropy calculations and effective gravity. The published sequence runs from defect extremal surfaces through finite-cutoff EOW branes and TT̄-deformed BCFT to local boundary Ward constraints and entropy checks with matched geometric prescriptions.
Approach and reading order
Read in order of construction: add defect degrees of freedom, combine an EOW brane with a cutoff, then distinguish the two treatments of the deformed boundary. The 2026 published paper specifies the assumptions behind local Ward constraints and the Weyl frame, induced geometry and endpoint prescriptions needed for entropy comparisons.
- Defect extremal surface as the holographic counterpart of Island formula
Begin with quantum entropy on the defect and its role in surface variation. This locates the boundary degrees of freedom in the calculation and prepares a dictionary for gravitational and matter terms after partial reduction.
- End of the world brane meets TT̄
Next retain both the EOW brane and a finite radial cutoff. Follow partial reduction to brane-world gravity coupled to a TT̄-deformed bath, comparing entanglement entropies and Page curves on the two sides.
- Holographic boundary conformal field theory with TT̄ deformation
Then ask whether the deformation acts on the boundary. Follow the paper's two constructions through boundary entropy and the finite-interval spectrum, and through field-theory/gravity comparisons of entanglement and Rényi entropies.
- Boundary constraints and geometric realizations in holographic TT̄-deformed BCFT
Finish with the journal version: no independent boundary stress tensor, a reflective boundary, a semiclassical factorized state, and separately treated contact terms. It assigns distinct roles to the local algebraic constraint and internal RT/BCFT entropy consistency checks with matched prescriptions.

Before taking an analytic result into a calculation, how can variables, conventions and approximations be fixed so that errors and mismatches remain traceable?
Lattice and Gaussian field-theory methods are current interests. Public papers on partial reduction, gravitational constraints and matched entropy calculations provide methodological reading references for specifying variables, approximations and consistency checks.
Approach and reading order
Lattice and Gaussian field theory remain current interests; this route uses public papers as methodological reading references. The three papers illustrate the origin of effective variables, constraints shared by different calculations, and matching conditions across descriptions, providing examples for designing analytic and numerical checks.
- JT gravity from partial reduction and defect extremal surface
Start by tracing the variables: in the three-dimensional partial-reduction construction, a small transverse brane fluctuation becomes the dilaton and yields the JT action. Record the small-fluctuation assumption, variable map and prescriptions used in the entropy match.
- An Interpretation for the Equivalence of Two Holographic Computations of the Butterfly Velocity with the Canonical Formalism of Gravity
Next compare the inputs to two calculations. This preprint reformulates the shock-wave and entanglement-wedge methods as initial data inserted into gravitational constraint equations, interpreting the matching butterfly velocities through that shared structure.
- Boundary constraints and geometric realizations in holographic TT̄-deformed BCFT
Finish by aligning the objects being compared: list the induced geometry, Weyl frame, endpoints and contact terms explicitly. Use the paper to distinguish a local Ward constraint from an internal entropy consistency check, and label what each check actually supports.
